The plating and the taste was amazing, hats off to the chef. The wine selection was amazing, really loves up to the name. Will definitely return.
I was at 266 wine room and bar which is located on Linking Road. The name which has 266 is the street no. 266, it's located right next to Shoppers Stop. We were here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Classy ambience and the place looks small when you enter with a nice bar. However it has more space on the inside which makes for a spacious restaurant. It's an Italian restaurant which has an exquisite collection of wines. You wouldn't believe it, but the quality is really nice. We were being served by Arin and Saurabh on the bar.
The place is very peaceful and you can really have a nice conversation and enjoy the food along which is value for money.
We started off with a couple of mocktails and a charcuterie and cheese board.
For mocktails we had the Spiced apple and the smoked affair both of them were nice. As the name suggests the Spiced apple consists of fresh apple juice, cinnamon and cloves. Nice refreshing drink. Rate it 4.5/5
The smoked affair consists of pineapple juice, peach extract and star anise. It's better than the spiced apple in taste. Touch sweeter in taste. Refreshing drink. Rate it 4.6/5
The cheese board has fresh figs, nuts in the form of almonds, pistachios, walnuts. Selected cheese like Edam, Peppercota and Camembert cheese. These were relatively hard cheese. Edam had nutty taste and firm texture. The peppercota(as informed by chef) had pepper flavour again a firm texture. It can be a pepper jack. Not too sure about the cheese. The last one was Camembert cheese a bit milky and soft. I enjoyed all the cheese served on the board. The cold cuts we got were chicken and pork cold cuts. Delicious cuts of meat. Rate the cheese board and charcuterie a 4.6/5
We tried some wine based cocktails with the cheese board. We also had a taste test of Primo Sangiovese Merlot. It was insane. So good. Nice peppery smooth flavours. Loved it.
So the wine based cocktails were Spicy conversation which had a York Cabernet Sauvignon, Captain Morgan, ginger and spices. It definitely was gingery and a touch spicy. Not too heavy on spice. Smooth red wine. Tasted wonderful. Nice quantity and great quality.
The other we had was Coco Jambo which had York Chenin Blanc, Greater Than and coconut. This was white wine. Not as good in taste as the previous one. But definitely a must try. Again nice smooth wine with a little sweetness coming from the coconut syrup. Loved both the wine cocktails. Rate the Spicy conversation a 4.9/5
The coco Jambo a 4.5/5
Coming to food we had Lamb Polpetini which is made with lamb is a meat ball dish with tomato sauce and smoked scamorza. I must say it's a heavy quantity dish. Nice tomato flavour and juicy meat balls. Value for money. Rate it 4.7/5
Next we had Pulled Pork Hash Brown with sunny side egg and bacon. Heavenly is the first word when i remember the dish. Perfect dish for a meat lover. Nothing gets better. There is bacon, pulled pork, eggs, hash brown which is typically potatoes. The textures and juicy flavours just take over your senses. It's got sweet, salty and fatty notes to the dish. Highly recommended. Rate it 5/5
For mains we had a Pesto Chicken Pizza. It had tomato sauce, walnut, confit garlic, basil, parmesan shaving. One of the best thin crust Nepolitan style pizza. High on taste with the fresh pesto and perfectly cooked chicken. The base tomato sauce is the best i have had anywhere. Rate it 4.9/5
For dessert we had Dark Chocolate and Olive Oil Mousse with Mulberries, Himalayan pink salt. Decadent. Delicious, perfect texture of mousse. Definitely a must try when at 266. Highly recommended dessert. The combination works wonders with bitterness coming from the dark chocolate and tang coming from the Mulberries the salt and the sweetness in the mousse. Very less on sweetness compared to many other places. This is quality stuff. Rate it 5/5
We also had some poached pears in red wine. I liked the poached pears. Very less sweetness added to the dish. There is whipped cream which gives the sweetness. There is a waffle at the bottom for texture. But didn't like it much. The poached pear had the red wine flavour. It's awesome. Enjoyed it. Rate it 4.6/5
Overall I had a great time trying some authentic Italian food. It was lovely being there. Very cooperative and helpful staff. Courteous in approach. Can be a bit more trained with the dishes and the elements in them. Nevertheless I had a great time. The food has lived upto expectations and the wine is just the best collection you may find in Mumbai. So i will definitely be back for my most favourite dish which was the Pulled Pork Hash Brown.
Till then Bon Appetit!!
